Caregiver of Clinical Trial Participant (FOP)

Qusya Basher is a retired Scientist and passionate advocate for individuals living with Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP), an ultra-rare (1 in 1.5 million) and debilitating genetic condition. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science and a Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry.

After her youngest child was diagnosed with FOP, Qusya shifted her focus from research to full-time caregiving. Her Biomedical background was crucial in preventing her child from undergoing harmful treatments, as FOP is often misdiagnosed as cancer. Her child was fortunate to participate in a clinical trial with support from Clinical Research Malaysia. The continuous improvements in her child's health became a catalyst motivating Qusya to redirect her expertise toward rare disease advocacy.

Qusya brings together the FOP community in Malaysia, ensuring that every family affected by FOP receives support, connection, and hope. Through FOP Malaysia, she works to raise public awareness, identify new cases, strengthen collaboration with healthcare professionals, and support clinical research toward a cure.
